FLUSAR Technical Rescue

ICFTA TRT Branch provides you with the best training in the world, and an array of training—particularly special, for rescuers in the field. Our instructors not only teach at a higher standard, but also have many years of experience in the field of Technical Rescue, and actually work on Special Operations Units throughout Florida.

Our programs are design with student learning being our number 1 goal. It is our priority to target all three domains of learning throughout our programs (Cognitive, Effective & Psychomotor). By doing this, we can ensure that our students master the material by learning the Science, applying the Knowledge & doing the Work. Our students are training to have knowledge of the standards, but also are put through a variety of scenarios in order to serve our community in case of a real emergency.

The Technical Rescue Branch comprises of all 5 main subjects within the program. These are; Rope Rescue, Vehicle and Machinery Extrication, Confined Space Rescue. Trench Rescue, & Structural Collapse Rescue Training. Instructors teach by FSFC, NFPA and OSHA Standards in order to meet course objectives.

RN3268 Rope Rescue Ops: 40-hrs

Course Description: Rope Rescue Operations Level is a course designed to train rescuers in high and low angle rescue/recovery. This course meets and exceeds NFPA 1006 Chapters 5 & 6.1.

Student Learning Outcomes: The student will be trained on rescue knots, rope systems, anchor systems, raise/lower techniques, ascending rope, patient packaging, stoke basket operations, rappelling & rope theory. Emphasis will be placed on safety, raising, lowering, belay operations, and moving a victim in high/low angle environments. Rope Rescue Level I is a pre-requisite for the remaining USAR/TRT courses.

Required Materials: Helmet, “Rope” or Leader Gloves, Eye Protection, T-shirt, Long Pants, Safety Toe Shoes.

RN3271 Rope Rescue Technician: 40-hrs

Course Description: Rope Rescue Technician Level is a course designed to train rescuers in high angle rescue/recovery. This course meets and exceeds NFPA 1006 Chapters 5 & 6.2.

Student Learning Outcomes: The student will be trained on trouble shooting areas, rope systems, anchor systems, raise/lower techniques, stoke basket operations, high line operations, pick-off techniques, knot passing and rope theory. Emphasis will be placed on safety, raising, lowering patient packaging, belay operations, as well as moving a victim in high angle environments.

Required Materials: Helmet, “Rope” or Leader Gloves, Eye Protection, T-shirt, Long Pants, Safety Toe Shoes.

RN3267 VMR Extrication Ops: 40-hrs

Course Description: Vehicle & Machinery Rescue Operations Level  is a course designed to train rescuers in light vehicle and machinery extrication. This course will meet or exceed NFPA 1006 Chapter 5 & 10.1 requirements.

Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be taught the basics of vehicle and machinery rescue, scene size up, identifying hazards, stabilization of common passenger cars and machinery, entry and egress techniques, disentanglement techniques, tool usage, patient packaging and removal. Emphasis will be placed on rescuer and victim safety, proper tool selection and usage and utilizing a multistep approach to extrication planning.

Required Materials: Fire or TRT Gear, Helmet, Extrication Gloves, Eye Protection (Primary), T-shirt, Long Pants, Safety Toe Shoes, Center Punch, Small Cable Cutters & seatbelt cutter.

Note: Primary Eye Protection must cover students eyes from all angles.

RN3276 VMR Extrication Technician: 40-hrs

Course Description: Vehicle & Machinery Rescue Technician Level is a course designed to train rescuers in commercial or heavy vehicle and machinery rescue. This course will meet or exceed NFPA 1006 Chapters 5 & 10.2 requirements.

Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be taught the basic and advanced concepts of Vehicle and Machinery Rescue: scene size up, identifying hazards, stabilization of commercial vehicles and machinery, entry and egress techniques, disentanglement techniques, tool usage, patient packaging and removal. Emphasis will be placed on rescuer and victim safety, proper tool selection and usage and utilizing a multi-step approach to extrication planning.

Required Materials: Fire or TRT Gear, Helmet, Extrication Gloves, Eye Protection (primary), T-shirt, Long Pants, Safety Toe Shoes, Center Punch, Small Cable Cutters & seatbelt cutter.

RN3265-75 Confined Space Ops/ Technician: 40-hrs

Course Description: Confined Space Rescue Level I & II is a course designed to train rescuers in all aspects of a confined space emergency, including rescue and recovery. This course meets OSHA standard 1910.146, as well as NFPA 1006 Chapter 5, 7.1 & 7.2.

Student Learning Outcomes: Confined Space Level I/II will teach proficiency in: assessment of confined spaces, pre-entry operations, atmospheric testing, supplied air breathing systems, personal protective equipment, lock-out/tag-out procedures and conducting/executing confined space rescues. Emphasis will be place on lowering/raising techniques and safely reaching, assessing, packaging and removing victims from confined spaces.

Required Materials: Helmet, Work Gloves, Eye Protection, Long Sleeve T-shirt, Long Pants, Safety Toe Shoes.

Highly Recommended: Elbow and Knee Pads.

RN3269-72 Trench Rescue Ops/ Technician: 40-hrs

Course Description: Trench Rescue Level I & II is a course designed to train the rescuer in trench rescue and recovery. This course meets or exceeds NFPA 1006 Chapters 5, 8.1 & 8.2.

Student Learning Outcomes: The student will be trained on: trench size up and assessment, atmospheric monitoring, trench support shoring, victim profiling and packaging in the trench. Emphasis will be placed on rescuer/victim safety, trench stabilization/shoring techniques of straight and intersecting trenches.

Required Materials: Helmet, Work Gloves, Eye Protection (Primary), Long Sleeve T-shirt, Long Pants, Safety Toe Shoes.

RN3266 Structural Collapse Rescue Ops: 40-hrs

Course Description: Structural Collapse Level I is a course designed to train the rescuer operating in a collapsed building of light construction. This course meets or exceeds NFPA 1006 Chapter 5, & 9.1.

Student Learning Outcomes: The student will be trained on: scene size up, building marking techniques, victim identification and removal, building stabilization, breaching/breaking and moving heavy loads. Emphasis will be placed on victim/ rescuer safety, light weight construction and the utilization of basic hand tools to achieve course objectives.

Required Materials: Helmet, Work Gloves, Eye Protection (Primary), Long Sleeve T-shirt, Long Pants, Safety Toe Shoes.

RN3270 Structural Collapse Rescue Tech: 80-hrs

Course Description: Structural Collapse Level II is a course designed to train the rescuer operating in a collapsed building of heavy type construction. This course meets or exceeds NFPA 1006 Chapter 5 and 9.2 requirements.

Student Learning Outcomes: The student will learn size up, light weight constructed collapsed structures, building marking techniques, victim identification and removal, building stabilization, breaching and breaking, moving heavy loads. Emphasis will be placed on victim/rescuer safety, heavy construction and utilization of multiple tools/equipment to achieve course objectives.

Required Materials: Helmet, Work Gloves, Eye Protection (Primary), Hearing Protection, Long Sleeve T-shirt, Long Pants, Safety Toe Shoes.
